Arunachal Pradesh : A soldier of the Assam Rifles martyred in an attack by militants

Itanagar : Suspected extremists attacked Assam Rifles personnel in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh. One Assam Rifles soldier was killed and another was injured in this attack. The injured jawan has been admitted to a government hospital in Changlang. According to Itanagar police, 19 battalion personnel of Assam Rifles were attacked by the militants near Herlong village.

Police suspect that around 30 militants of the Paresh Baruah faction of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA-Independent) and Yung Aung of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K) are behind this attack. A police officer said without disclosing his identity, “It has been learned that the militants had blasted an IED before indiscriminate firing However, we have not yet received full details of the incident.”

The injured jawan has been admitted to a government hospital in Changlang. He is likely to be airlifted in Guwahati, Assam. Three districts of Arunachal Pradesh – Tirap, Longding and Changlang, share borders with Myanmar. The Armed Forces Special Powers Act has been in force in this area for many years. Various militant organizations are using forest areas as secret hideouts. However, it was not known how many personnel of Assam Rifles were going for the water tanker and whether they took any action in response to the militant attack.
