Mumbai : ‘Newborn Care Week’ is celebrated every year from November 15 to November 21. This week is entirely devoted to raising awareness about the importance of survival and development of an infant. The first 28 days of an infant are important for its survival and lay the foundation for the baby’s development.

According to data, about 25 out of a thousand children die between 28 days of birth and hence it is very important to spread awareness about the care of the newborn. Let us know about the mistakes that are usually made by parents.

Take extra care
It is natural to worry about your child, although one mistake that most parents make during this time is to take extra care. Parents start taking extra care about the health and safety of the child. There is no doubt that the baby needs to be cared for 24 hours, but doctors believe that taking too much care can also be harmful for them.

Must buy a crib for baby
Not buying a crib for a child can be the biggest mistake of parents. Doctors advise that the cradle should always be used for infants, because sleeping on the same bed with the parents is risk of ‘Sudden Infant Death Syndrome’ i.e. SIDS.

Don’t let babies cry
According to doctors and health experts, crying is an important part of a child’s development. They say that a child can cry even though he is completely healthy and those who become parents for the first time don’t know much about it.

Get enough rest and sleep well
A newborn sleeps for about 18–20 hours a day, however, they sleep only for a few hours several times a day, which causes problems for the parents. For first time parents, doctors recommend that when their baby is sleeping, they should also take proper rest and good sleep at the same time so that they feel refreshed and do not feel tired all the time.

Make the child burp after eating
One of the most common mistakes made by parents is not make the child burp after feeding. Doctors suggest that parents should not panic and should make their child burp after every feed, as it helps them a lot.

Do not ignore the fever
Many parents ignore the fever, they think it is natural for the children’s body to be a little hot. However, they should be aware that a temperature of 97.52F is considered normal in infants and young children. If the body temperature is higher than this, then it should not be ignored under any circumstances. Fever can also be a symptom of a serious illness.

Never give honey to newborns
There is a tradition in many places where honey is fed to newborns. However, children should not be given honey, as honey contains bacterial spores, which are responsible for stomach infections.
