Delhi’s air quality drops to ‘dangerous’ category, Condition of Bawana worst, 453 AQA

New Delhi : Pollution levels in the capital reached the dangerous category on Thursday due to parali smoke and reduced wind speed. The average air quality index (AQI) of 402 was recorded till 4 pm. Due to the day-long smog, people faced trouble.

According to the Center’s air alert system, about three thousand incidents of parali burning in neighboring states including Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday had a direct impact on the air of northwest India including Delhi-NCR.

Among the major hotspot areas of the capital, AQI 406 was recorded in Shadipur while 411 in Patparganj, 429 in Jahangirpuri and 432 in Vivek Vihar. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the level of Particulate Matter (PM) 10 has been recorded at 420 micrograms per cubic meter till 10 am Thursday, the highest this season.

According to Safar, AQI 453 was recorded in Bawana, while 421 in Shadipur, 411 in Patparganj, 429 in Jahangirpuri, 432 in Vivek Vihar and 427 in Mundaka. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the level of Particulate Matter (PM) 10 has been recorded at 420 micrograms per cubic meter till 10 am Thursday, the highest this season. The PM10 level is considered safe if it is less than a cubic meter at 100 grams. PM10 is a very subtle element, whose diameter is less than 10 micrometers. This is the reason why it easily enters the lungs.

According to Safar, the air standards body of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, PM 2.5 level was recorded at 18 per cent due to parali burning on Wednesday, while it was 23 per cent on Tuesday, 16 on Monday, 19 on Sunday and nine per cent on Saturday. According to Safar, PM 2.5 level has increased in the capital due to local pollution and the smoke of the parali coming from the north west direction.

According to the Meteorological Department, Delhi recorded a maximum wind speed of eight kilometers per hour and a minimum temperature of 12.5 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature this season. This is the reason why pollution is increasing these days.
