Mumbai : Maharashtra is facing shortage of blood supply due to covid19. Blood donors are not donating blood due to fear of corona. After making a hundred calls for blood donation throughout the day, only two people have donated blood. According to the information, blood donation coordinators are not getting responses from Blood banks. Because of this, blood shortage is being felt in the blood banks of the state.

Due to shortage of blood, the date of operation has to be extended. It is difficult to arrange blood in case of urgent operation. Rising cases of Corona are directly impacting blood collection in the state. Most of the blood bank bags are empty without blood. In view of this, blood donation has been arranged in OPD of Sassoon Hospital. But, not a single blood donor is coming there throughout the day. Appeal is being made again and again for Blood donation, but doctors say that there is no response. Doctors are also worried by this.

Thalassemia patients need blood regularly. Due to the lack of blood in Pune, a lot of effort is being made for blood donation. Families of some patients have to run for blood.

According to Dr. Anand Chafekar, head of KEM blood bank, some operations have been postponed due to shortage of blood.

In some operations, family members of patients are being requested to arrange blood of the concerned group. Most people are working from home because of Corona. There is no blood donation camp in industrial factories. These are all impacting blood collection.
