Former Gujarat CM and Congress veteran Madhav Singh Solanki dies at 94

Ahmedabad : Former Chief Minister of Gujarat Madhav Singh Solanki has passed away. Madhav Singh Solanki was a prominent Congress leader and had been the Chief Minister of Gujarat four times. He died on Saturday at the age of 94. Madhav Singh Solanki was born on 30 July 1927. Born into a Koli family, Solanki was considered a big leader of the Congress. He was also the Foreign Minister of India.

Madhav Singh Solanki, who came to power using Gujarat’s politics and caste equations, is considered the father of KHAM theory. KHAM means Kshatriya, Harijan, Adivasi and Muslim. In the 1980s, he combined these four classes together and came to power with a thumping majority. This equation of Madhav Singh Solanki excluded the forward castes from the power of Gujarat for many years.
