Counting of votes for the election of local bodies continues in Kerala. Though the counting of votes is still going on, the Congress candidate from the North Island ward of the Kochi body has suffered a major setback. Actually, from this ward, the candidate for the post of Mayor of Congress, N. Venugopal has been defeated by the BJP candidate by just 1 vote.

Congress candidate N Venugopal, who lost to BJP by one vote, said, “It was a won seat.” “I can not tell what happened. There was no problem in the party. The problem was in the voting machine. This may be the reason for BJP’s victory. I have not decided yet about going to court with the voting machine. I’ll first see what actually happened.”

Local body elections for 21 thousand 893 wards were held in Kerala in 3 phases. The third and last phase saw 78.64 percent of the vote. At the same time, 76.38 percent polling was done in the second phase and 72.67 percent in the first phase. CPM-led LDF, Congress-led UDF and BJP have a chance to show their strength in the election. It is believed that this result will be a trailer for next year’s assembly elections in the state.
