New Delhi : In the Corona era, people have been influenced towards digital banking. But due to shortage of cash during the pandemic, people have been forced to withdraw deposits in bank accounts during the festive season. Withdrawal of funds from Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in the capital increased by an average of 4.54 percent in the 15 days during Diwali this year compared to last year.

123 crore withdrawn in the first fortnight of November
According to cash-loading agencies, an average of 230 transactions took place from every ATM from November 1 to November 14 this year. Talking on the basis of price, on an average, 4000 to 5000 rupees have been withdrawn on every transaction. It is known that at present there are 1077 ATMs in the capital. That is, in the first fortnight of November, people withdrew Rs 123 crore from the ATM through the card 2,47,710 times.

There was a withdrawal of Rs 118.47 crore last year
During the fortnight of Diwali last year (from 15 October 2019 to 30 October 2019), there were withdrawals of Rs 118.47 crore from ATMs through cards, 2,36,940 times. Estimates for this year were that there would be less market purchases due to the coronavirus. But the market was buzzing during the whole fortnight. People were attracted towards digital payments, but even then more than 84 percent of the payments were in cash. Only 16% of the payments were made through the card on UPI or POS machines.

In the last five years, there were an average of 300 transactions per ATM. On an average, there was a transaction of Rs 1500 to Rs 2000. This year, during the festive season, the withdrawal of funds through ATMs has been more.
