New Delhi : The Indian Army today said that suspicious movements have been seen at the forward posts of LoC in the Karen sector of Jammu and Kashmir. That suspected incursion was thwarted by soldiers. The army said that Pakistan fired a mortar and other weapons, violating the ceasefire on the LoC in the Karen sector. A soldier of India was martyred in a ceasefire. BSF sub-inspector Rakesh Doval succumbed to injuries sustained during a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. He was a resident of Uttarakhand.

Heavy firing on Haji Pir in Uri and Gurez along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir took place between Indian and Pakistani troops on Friday. Residents said the firing was intermittent and both sides used small arms and mortars. Pakistan has violated the ceasefire in the URI more than a dozen times in the last six months.

In Gurez, residents said mortars in the Izmerg and Tarabal areas had reached close to the civilian population, a few kilometers from the LoC. An army officer blamed Pakistan for taking the initiative of ceasefire violations. “It always happens that they start from the other side of the LoC. Our soldiers give them an outspoken response.”
