Delhi Riots : Umar Khalid to face case under UAPA, Approves MHA-Delhi Government

New Delhi : The Delhi government and the Ministry of Home Affairs have given approval to prosecute Umar Khalid and others in the Delhi violence case. Umar Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police under the UAPA in a case of violence. According to the law, under the UAPA it is necessary to get approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs to prosecute a person.

Delhi Police got permission about a week ago. Delhi Police is going to file a chargesheet against Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the court very soon in the Delhi violence case. Apart from this, the crime branch will also file a charge sheet against Omar Khalid soon.

Umar Khalid was arrested on 14 September on behalf of Delhi Police in connection with Delhi violence. The Karkardooma Court has extended the judicial custody of Umar Khalid till 20 November. An application was made to extend his judicial custody for 30 days more by the Delhi Police.

Opposing the plea of Umar Khalid, his lawyer said that he has cooperated in all ways in the investigation of the police. In such a situation, by alleging that Umar Khalid is not cooperating in the investigation, the application made by the Delhi Police to extend his judicial custody is wrong.

Delhi Police had told the Karkardooma court that investigation is going on in this case at present and in such a situation, Umar Khalid should not be granted bail at this stage of investigation. After this, the court extended the judicial custody of Umar Khalid till 20 November. Umar Khalid is still in judicial custody.
