New Delhi : The Government of India has given strict warning to Twitter for showing the wrong map of the country. The government has said that every attempt by Twitter to disregard the sovereignty and integrity of the country is unacceptable. At the same time, Twitter has said that it respects the sentiments and is committed to working with the government.

Ajay Sahni, Secretary, Ministry of Information Technology (IT), has written a strong letter to Twitter’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jack Dorsi about this. Sahni said that any such effort not only tarnishes Twitter’s reputation, but it also makes Twitter’s impartiality suspicious as a medium.

Sources in the ministry said that Sahni has written a strong letter to the Twitter CEO expressing his displeasure on behalf of the government for showing the wrong map of India. It is noteworthy that Twitter had given the geographical location of Leh as a part of Jammu and Kashmir of People’s Republic of China.

Sahni in his letter reminded Twitter that Leh is the headquarters of the union territory of Ladakh. The letter states that both Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir are integral and inseparable parts of India and administered by the Constitution of India.

The government has asked Twitter to respect the sensitivity of Indian citizens. The government has also clearly stated that any Twitter attempt to disregard India’s sovereignty and integrity (as in the case of the map) is completely illegal and unacceptable.
