High blood pressure or hypertension is also known as silent killer because it shows no symptoms and puts you at a much higher risk of heart disease. Early detection allows time for immediate changes in diet and lifestyle with appropriate medicines. This can help to control that situation effectively.

To know more about the identity of high blood pressure disease, the Consultant Physician at Hinduja Hospital has shared the necessary information. According to him, the reason for blood pressure is lifestyle breakdown which is usually due to excess body weight, use of a non-healthy diet or sluggish lifestyle. When detected with high blood pressure, some investigation needs to be done.

Blood test – Basic profile of the body including glycosylated hemoglobin, uric acid and vitamin B12 as well as vitamin D level.

Electrocardiogram – This is a test that shows the electrical activity of the heart. It helps to understand whether hypertension has started affecting your heart. All adults are advised to conduct this test at least once a year. Many types of investigations are done to know the effect on the heart and other organs.

Echocardiography –
This is called sonography of the heart. This gives information about the heartbeat and the position of the heart valve. People suffering from hypertension, diabetes or kidney diseases should undergo this type of examination on the advice of a doctor once or more in a year.

Abdomen ultrasound (Abdominal Sonography) – This is an imaging technique that extracts images of organs inside your stomach such as kidney, liver. This test is used to check any health condition in these organs. Many times there is a fear of kidney disease due to high blood pressure or high blood pressure due to kidney diseases. Therefore, it is important to get these organs screened every year.
