Ruling Congress defeats BJP in Rajasthan Municipal polls

Jaipur : Congress has defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Rajasthan municipal elections. In this election, the ruling Congress has left the BJP far behind in the seats. Election votes have been counted in 90 bodies in 20 districts. In the declared results, 1197 ward members of the Congress have won, while the BJP has won 1140 seats. While 693 seats have been won by the independents.

However, there were a total of 29 lakh voters in the civic elections in Rajasthan. Of these, 22 lakh cast their votes. Of these, 7,85,282 votes have been received by the Congress, while 7,65,363 votes have gone to BJP’s account. Independents got 687,219 votes. Looking at the difference of vote percentage, the Congress is ahead of the BJP by half a percent votes. BJP state president Satish Punia says that the party has won more seats this time than last time.
