New Delhi : Democrat members in the US parliament are planning to discuss impeachment against President Donald Trump to formally reduce Trump’s authority to Vice President Mike Pence just before the vote on Wednesday. The plan came after Pence refused to remove Trump from power. Meanwhile, top leaders have issued summons to recall MPs not returning to Parliament House.

These leaders have also promised these MPs for the protection of the National Guard soldiers and the Federal Air Marshal escort after the security failure during the violence that took place in the past. Prior to Joe Biden’s oath on 20 January, authorities announced the deployment of 15,000 National Guard troops as part of efforts to strengthen the Capitol (Parliament House).

A multilateral buffer zone with checkpoints was set up around the building before the impeachment debate and vote against Trump on Wednesday. Majority Democrat leader in the House of Representatives, Stany Hoyer, asked lawmakers to return immediately before voting to consider a motion urging Vice President Mike Pence to enforce their constitutional authority. However, Pence is unlikely to take action even if this proposal is passed. Voting is finally scheduled.

Newly elected President Joe Biden has urged the US Congress leadership to run the impeachment process in two parts, on outgoing President Donald Trump. “I discussed it in the House with some people in the Senate and requested that we spend half a day working on the impeachment process and half a day to nominate my nominees and move forward on the economic package,” Biden said. However, he has not yet received a reply from the MPs on this. Meanwhile, Biden said that “I have no fear of the oath ceremony, but caution is necessary given the way the violence took place on Wednesday.”
