Farmers on hunger strike today,Will form panel if government wants to talk

New Delhi : Today is the 19th day of the farmers’ movement. The farmer leader has announced a one-day hunger strike on 14 December. Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chadhuni, who stood at the Singhu border in Delhi, said that the farmers will be on a one-day hunger strike from 8 am to 5 pm on 14 December. Apart from this, sit-in demonstrations will be held at all district headquarters. Earlier, farmers had warned to close Delhi-Jaipur highway on December 13, due to which the situation of the highway remained jammed throughout the day.

Farmer leader Shiv Kumar Kakka on the Singhu border said,
“Our stand is clear, we want all three agricultural laws to be repealed. All the farmers unions participating in this movement are together.”

Indian Farmers Union spokesman Rakesh Tikait said,
“We need to keep an eye, so that there is no wrong element among us. All our youth need to be vigilant. If the government wants to talk, then we will set up a committee and decide further.”

Key-points from press conference of farmer leaders –
# Farmer leaders said that the hunger strike would end at 5 pm on 14 December. This is a one day strike only.

# Gurnam Singh Chadhuni said that he has canceled the fast on 19 December. Earlier, on December 19, he had spoken of fasting on Martyrdom Day.

# Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said that BKU Bhanu (Indian Farmers Union Bhanu) is the official agenda.

# The farmers said that now they will block the borders of Delhi. However, milk vegetables will be allowed to go so that common citizens do not have problems. It is not banned.

Agriculture Minister met farmers
Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar is constantly meeting with farmer organizations. On Saturday 12 December, he met the farmer leaders of Haryana and today he met the farmer delegation of Uttarakhand. Minister of State for Agriculture Kailash Chaudhary and Education Minister of Uttarakhand Arvind Pandey were also present during the meeting. This farmers delegation also supported the new agricultural laws. Tomar said after the meeting,

“Today the farmers of Uttarakhand met me and supported the agricultural laws. I would like to thank the farmers who understood, supported and gave their views on the law.”

The leaders of the farmers’ organization, who are protesting, have expressed their unhappiness

at this meeting. Talking to media on the Singhu border, farmer leader Jasbir Singh said,

“A leader from Uttarakhand met the Agriculture Minister with some people with him. 90 of these people have nothing to do with farming. There are 10 people who also do other things. The special thing is that Sikhs were brought to the meeting to show that Sikhs are with us. None of them was a farmer.”

In Delhi, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Som Prakash met Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence. In this meeting, issues of farmers were discussed. Earlier, Shah met BJP leaders from Punjab. Many BJP leaders including Union Commerce Minister Som Prakash, Ashwini Sharma attended this meeting.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that those who are protesting are doing so only to protest. He himself first recognized the need for these reforms. We will make people aware of how agricultural laws will be beneficial for farmers.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has announced a day-long fast in support of farmers. He has also appealed to the people of the country to fast on Monday in support of the farmers. He has also asked Aam Aadmi Party workers and supporters to keep fast.
