Karan Johar’s company steals the title of Madhur Bhandarkar’s web series, notice sent
Mumbai : Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is again in trouble due to its employees. This time, the case is of his web series, whose name is already reserved with director Madhur Bhandarkar. Madhur has busted the entire matter on social media after Karan Johar’s Dharma Production was making a series with a similar name to his web series.
The matter came to light when Madhur Bhandarkar himself shared a post on social media on Friday afternoon. In this post Madhur wrote, ‘Dear Karan Johar, you & Apoorva Mehta18 had asked me for the title #BollywoodWives for web, which I refused, as my project is underway. It is Morally & ethically wrong u to tweak it to TheFabulousLivesofBollywoodWives. Pls do not dent my project. I humbly request you to change the title.’ There is no response from Karan Johar and his company on this so far.

Director Madhur Bhandarkar, who made the film ‘Indu Sarkar’ on the story of a biography of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has objected to the Dharma Productions’ web series ‘The Fabulous Life of Bollywood Wives’. Madhur has requested Karan Johar to change the title of the series by sharing a post on social media. Also, now the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association i.e. IMPPA has also been dragged into this matter.
In a notice sent to Karan Johar’s company Dharma Productions, why did Karan keep his web series titled ‘The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’ when Madhur Bhandarkar had already registered the title ‘Bollywood Wives’? Madhur Bhandarkar has registered the title with the Producers Guild of India. On contacting the guild of IMPPA, he has also confirmed that Madhur has already registered the title ‘Bollywood Wives’ with his company.
IMPPA has also sent information about the entire case to Karan Johar’s company Dharma Productions. IMPPA wrote in its letter, ‘We are sending you the confirmed information received from the Guild on 20 November 2020 which states that you have not registered any title with the name ‘The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’ and we also want to warn you that when you have not registered any title then how have you violated the title registration rule by declaring another title similar to that.
