New Delhi : A woman from Australia discovered a new species of spider in her backyard. According to the Daily Mail, Amanda de George first saw the eight-eyed creature 18 months ago. She saw the same spider again. She managed to catch and capture him. She took pictures and sent them to the experts.

Amanda de George, a nature lover from Thirroul, New South Wales, had no idea that she had seen a new species of Jotus brushed jumping spider a year ago. The spider had 8 blue eyes. She quickly took some pictures of the spider and uploaded them on the Facebook group ‘Backyard Zoology’.

De George shared the photos and wrote, “So I was taking out the recycling like a good human when I spotted a tiny but totally handsome Jumping Spider on the lid of the bin,” He described the spider as having “massive blue eyes”.

According to ABC News, the post was brought to the attention of spider expert Joseph Schubert, who asked De George to catch that spider. After months of searching, she managed to catch the spider. Amanda de George grabbed it and put it in an empty container. She also saw another spider, which she placed in another container because if they were in the same container they could eat each other.

Two spiders were sent to Schubert in Melbourne, who specializes in jumping spiders. The spider will be formally named and described when Museums Victoria opens its labs again.

Ms De George said that helping identify a new species of spiders was very exciting. “Honestly it is so exciting! It feels so nice to be able to contribute something to science,” she said.
