Patna : Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey has taken VRS. Nitish Kumar Government of the state has also approved it. Speculation about Gupteshwar Pandey taking retirement (VRS) had been going on for a long time. Now he has applied for VRS, which has been approved by the state government. Sanjeev Kumar Singhal, DG, Civil Defense and Fire Services has been given additional charge of DGP Bihar till further orders.

Gupteshwar Pandey, a 1987 batch IPS officer, was made DGP of Bihar in January 2019. His term as DGP was till 28 February 2021. However, he decided to retire before this on Tuesday. Which was approved by the state government. After his VRS, there is also discussion that Gupteshwar Pandey can contest the assembly elections. It is believed that he may be a candidate from the NDA. These speculations are being made after a tweet by Gupteshwar Pandey. 

Gupteshwar Pandey has tweeted that he will come live on September 23 and tell his story. Pandey’s appearance live on social media platforms for ‘Meri Kahani, Meri Jubani’ is being seen as a sign of his activism in politics.

The lawyer of accused Rhea Chakraborty, Satish Maneshinde, has targeted the VRS of the Bihar police chief. Rhea’s lawyer said that the Bihar government and the central government took a decision in less than 24 hours on the application filed for VRS on behalf of DGP Gupteshwar Pandey. This is exactly as the Bihar government had transferred the FIR against Rhea to the CBI and the Center had cleared it.

Lawyer Satish Maneshinde said that this is not Justice for Sushant Singh Rajput, but Justice for Gupteshwar Pandey. It is noteworthy that the Gupteshwar Pandey came into the limelight FIR registered in the Sushant case in Bihar and after the police team went to Mumbai for investigation.

Gupteshwar Pandey was also constantly active in the media. It is noteworthy that Rhea Chakraborty has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) investigating the drugs angle in the Sushant case.

Gupteshwar Pandey had also taken VRS from Buxar Lok Sabha seat in 2009 to contest on a BJP ticket. But he could not get a ticket. Later, he applied to return to service, which was approved by the Nitish Kumar government 9 months later. When Pandey took VRS in 2009, he was IG and in 2019 he became DGP of Bihar.
