UP: Policemen won’t be able to grow beard without permission, stylish beard hair also not allowed

Lucknow : DGP Hitesh Chandra Awasthi has issued fresh instructions after the ruckus on the beard of the Sub Inspector in Baghpat. He has said that no one except the people of Sikh religion can grow hair without permission.

In fact, the DGP has issued this circular in Baghpat after a dispute over a sub-inspector refusing to shave his beard. Arguments were being made about this on social media.

The DGP has stated in the circular that on religious grounds, the permission to keep a beard and long hair for a temporary period may be given by the head of the office. There will be no permission for stylish beard hair. Police personnel can keep their mustache at will. But mustaches must be trimmed and have good maintenance. He instructed the officers to interrupt for the wrong uniform and beard-hair so that discipline should be maintained.

The DGP has written a letter to all the police officers saying that there are reports that many police personnel are not wearing full uniform at the time of duty. He directed that all police personnel shall wear the prescribed uniform.

Other than uniform shoes, no slippers, fashionable shoes or sandals shall be worn. He has asked police personnel to abolish the practice of wearing the wrong uniform, hat, name plate, shirt button open and not wearing the prescribed shoe-socks.
