New Delhi : India has reacted strongly to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on terrorism. Speaking on peace and security reasons at the UNSC, India’s Permanent Representative TS Tirumurthy said that ‘it is the undisputed fact that terrorism remains the greatest threat to mankind. Terrorism not only severely affects human life, but also destroys the foundations of humanity. ‘

India launched a scathing attack on Pakistan in the UN Security Council, saying that “Islamabad is disrupting the peace process in Afghanistan by carrying out violent attacks through terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.”

Taking a dig at Pakistan, TS Tirumurthy said that it is necessary that we do not lose that ease with which the Haqqani network and its supporters, especially Pakistani officials have worked with major terrorist organizations in South Asia like Al-Qaeda, ISIL, Tehreek-Taliban Pakistan etc. He further stated that social media contributed to the youth’s involvement in bigotry and terrorism.

TS Tirumurthy said that ‘the world is fully aware that these groups also carry out terrorist activities from safe havens in Pakistan, including disrupting the peace process through violent attacks in Afghanistan. We are also saying that the transfer of terrorist groups into Afghanistan is being seen on the Durand Line for Afghanistan, especially in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces. ‘

Thirumurthy reiterated the statement of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Parliament in January, in which he spoke of political volition. At the same time, the Foreign Minister rhad eacted strongly to terrorism. He had said that ‘Do not support terrorism, do not glorify terrorists. Terrorists are terrorists. No good or bad distinction can be made.’

Indian envoy TS Tirumurthy further said that India supports anti-terrorism cooperation under the aegis of the United Nations. Also said that India has been at the forefront of global efforts against terrorism, it has participated in all major global initiatives against international terrorism.
