New Delhi : Supporters of President Donald Trump created a lot of uproar on Thursday over a meeting to validate the electoral college votes. The uproar and violence by supporters of the outgoing president led to worsening conditions and curfew in Washington DC. Trump supporters also clashed with the police during the uproar. A woman has died due to being shot in it. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has given his response on this.

Prime Minister Modi tweeted on Thursday morning saying, ‘Distressed to see news about rioting and violence in Washington DC. Orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue. The democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverted through unlawful protests.’

Trump supporters created an uproar when the US Congress was debating electoral college votes. Joe Biden’s victory was to be confirmed at this meeting. There were clashes between police and Trump supporters outside the Capitol. The protesters broke the barricades below the capitol stairs. After this, Twitter and Facebook have suspended Donald Trump’s account.

Significantly, there was a violent clash between Trump’s supporters and the police at the Capitol campus in Washington DC, following which the campus was closed. It was announced that no person could go outside or inside the Capitol premises due to ‘external security threats’.
