Bhopal :

The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has approved the Religious Freedom Ordinance. On the lines of Uttar Pradesh, the Shivraj government of Madhya Pradesh is also going to enact a law against love jihad, so that people who marry anyone by forcing them to convert their religion can be punished severely. Under this law, a maximum punishment of 10 years and a penalty of Rs 1 lakh rupees has been provided to those who marry by forcibly converting. The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has approved this in its meeting.

Significantly, the Shivraj cabinet approved the Religion Freedom Bill 2020 on 26 December 2020. This law serves to prohibit forcible conversion. After this, Shivraj said that we will not let anyone in Madhya Pradesh be forced to convert by enticing, intimidating, cheating or confusing. We have made the 1968 law more effective and strict.

The Shivraj government will implement the Religious Freedom Act -2020 through an ordinance to prevent love jihad. Due to the postponement of the winter session of the proposed Legislative Assembly from Monday, it has been decided that the important bills will be implemented by bringing an ordinance. It was proposed in a cabinet meeting to be chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Tuesday, after which it was approved.
