Punjab lawyer allegedly dies by suicide in support of farmers movement

Amritsar : The impact of the peasant movement is now beginning to take place all over the country. Farmers who have been protesting for almost one month, are still adamant on their demands. Meanwhile, a lawyer from Punjab, who came in support of the agitating farmers, ate poisonous substance in Bahadurgarh, Haryana on Sunday morning. He died in PGI Rohtak. A letter written to Prime Minister Modi has been recovered from him as a suicide note. In which he has termed the three agricultural laws as anti-farmer.

Lawyer Amarjit Singh, who was involved in the farmers’ agitation near Pakora Chowk, about seven kilometers from the Tikri Border, ate the poisonous substance. Seeing the condition worsening, the companions immediately took him to the civil hospital in Bahadurgarh. CMO Jhajjar Dr. Sanjay Dahiya said that he reached Bahadurgarh civil hospital at around 9:22 pm.

Lawyer Amarjit Singh, a member of Jalalabad Bar Association in Fazilka district of Punjab, was on dharna near Nayagaon Chowk along with his fellow agitators. The suicide note has the date of December 18 written in green ink pens with the signature below.
