Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee’s condition critical, Last attempt to save him continues
Kolkata : Famous Bangla actor Soumitra Chatterjee’s condition is ‘very serious and worrisome’. In a private hospital in Kolkata, doctors are making a final effort to get his health back on track. The team of doctors treating Soumitra Chatterjee gave this information on Saturday.
Soumitra Chatterjee, conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, has been placed on the life support system and is not responding in any way. One of the doctors treating him said, ‘Despite all our efforts, his physiological system is not responding. His condition is worse than before. He has been put on all kinds of support and he is battling for life.
According to news agency PTI, the doctor said that due to corona, his nervous system has become dysfunctional and all efforts are proving to be fruitless. We tried steroids, immunoglobulin, cardiology, antiviral therapy, immunology, everything. The doctor said that a large team of experts in neurology, nephrology, cardiology, critical care medicine, tried to bring Soumitra Chatterjee’s health back on track in the last 40 days.
The doctor said, ‘We are sorry that he is not giving any response. We are making our last effort. Even his family has accepted that his health is not going to improve.’
The doctor said that his health has worsened further. We did a CT scan to find out if there was any problem. We did an EEG, but there is very little activity happening inside his brain. His oxygen requirement was increased and the kidney is not functioning properly. The 85-year-old actor underwent the first plasmapheresis on Thursday and a tracheostomy on Wednesday.
Soumitra Chatterjee, who started his career with Satyajit Roy’s film ‘Apur Sansar’, was admitted to the hospital on 6 October after being found positive. He became corona negative after treatment, but many other complications arose due to covid19.
