Advanced Landing Ground to be built near China border for Indian Army
New Delhi : In view of the ever-increasing conflict with China and the activities of the Chinese Army along the 240-km border with Himachal, advance landing grounds will be built in Lahaul-Spiti district. The Union Defense Ministry has asked the Himachal government to find land for this. After the land is identified, the Ministry of Defense will survey and prepare the landing ground at appropriate places. It is being told that in normal times civil aviation and in war-like situations, the army will be able to use it.
DGP Sanjay Kundu confirmed that the Ministry of Defense has asked Himachal to seek land for this in Spiti. In fact, Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur district share a border with China of more than 240 kilometers. After the Indian Army clashed with China in Galvan, Ladakh, the Chinese Air Force had tried to fly eight kilometers inside the Samdo of Lahaul-Spiti. After this incident, Himachal Governor Bandaru Dattatreya had asked DGP Sanjay Kundu to send a team of police officers, expressing concern over the security of these remote areas.
Teams of six IPS officers were sent to different areas along the border, who made a presentation to the Governor at Raj Bhavan after taking feedback from local people, intelligence agencies and district administration. In this, it was told that there was not even an arrangement for the army to land in the emergency post areas in an emergency and the local people were also worried about it.
After this presentation, the Governor wrote two letters to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and talked about working on 12 different points, including the recommendation to build large-scale infrastructure in this frontier region. Accepting their recommendations, the Defense Minister has given instructions like increasing roads, mobile networks and military strength in these areas.
Kundu said that recently the Center has asked to find land for an advanced landing ground. After getting land, helipads can be prepared for the army, which will strengthen the security of the area.
The police report said that due to lack of employment opportunities, the youth are moving to other states of the country and only the elderly population is left in the border areas. Apart from this, the lack of mobile connectivity, poor condition of the road network, local flora was said to be of prominence.
