Republic TV & 2 Other Channels Paid Households To Manipulate TRPs : Mumbai Police

Mumbai : Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh has made a big statement in the film actor Sushant Singh Rajput case. The police commissioner made a sensational claim that he had busted a fake TRP racket. He said – ‘False TRP racket was running.’

During a press conference on Thursday, the Police Commissioner said that Mumbai Police has come to know of three channels where the TRP is manipulated by paying money through the TRP racket. One of these is Republic India channel while the other two are Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema. These are both small channels and the owners of these channels have been taken into custody.

Two people have been arrested in this manipulation of TRP. Its information will be given to the Ministry of Information Broadcasting and information of Republic TV to the Government of India.

Soon after this, Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, added some other coverage of the channel, including the Sushant Singh death case. Simultaneously, Arnab has threatened criminal defamation against the Mumbai Police Commissioner. Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami has issued a statement after this claim regarding the TRP rating done by the Mumbai commissioner. He said that he is being attacked in this way due to the coverage of the Maharashtra government.

Parambir Singh said that propaganda was being run against the police and that a fake TRP racket was going on. All these fake TRPs were made by paying money. A variety of agendas were being run against the police. The Mumbai Police claimed that they had received information that a fake propaganda was being run against the police. After which, Mumbai Crime Branch busted a new racket regarding fake TRPs (television rating points).

The police commissioner said that it is a crime and is investigating to stop it. He said that the help of forensic experts is being taken for this and further action will be taken on the basis of the accused who have been arrested.

Parambir Singh said that the owners of two smaller channels, Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema, have been taken in custody. Breach of trust and fraud cases have been filed. The police commissioner said that people working in Republic TV, promoters and directors can also be arrested. He said that further investigation was going on and those who advertised would also be questioned whether there was any pressure on them.
