Delhi Riots : 5 People Including Tahir Hussain & Congress Leader Were Given 1.61 Cr In 3 Months

New Delhi : Just a few days ago, Delhi Police Special Cell had made another arrest in the Delhi violence case on Sep 14. Umar Khalid has been arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) alumnus Omar Khalid in Delhi violence case. According to sources, Umar Khalid was summoned and called for questioning. He has been arrested after several hours of questioning.

The Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet in the court in connection with the violence in north-east Delhi in February. In it, the police claimed that five people had allegedly received Rs 1.61 crore against the Revised Citizenship Act (CAA) to manage the protest sites and carry out the conspiracy of communal violence.

Police have filed a charge sheet against 15 accused in the case of communal violence in North East Delhi in February. According to the chargesheet, during the investigation, it has been revealed that the accused Ishrat Jahan, Khalid Saifi, Tahir Hussain, Shifa-ur Rehman and Meeran Haider received a total of Rs 1,61,33,703 through bank account and cash from 1 December 2019 to 26 February 2020. The chargesheet states that out of a total of Rs 1.61 crore, Rs 1,48,01,186 was withdrawn in cash and spent in the management of the protest venues.

Police have said in the chargesheet that former Congress councilor Ishrat Jahan, activist Khalid Saifi, suspended Aam Aadmi Party councilor Tahir Hussain, Jamia Millia Islamia Alumni Association president Shifa Ur Rehman and Jamia student Meeran Haider allegedly received Rs 1.61 crore for managing the protest sites against the CAA and for carrying out the conspiracy for the Delhi riots in February.

A news report revealed earlier on September 14 that after the arrest of JNU student leader Umar Khalid in the Delhi Riots Case, Delhi Police’s Special Cell had summoned short film producer Rahul Roy and documentary filmmaker Saba Deewan in the Delhi violence case.

Official sources said on Monday that Diwan and Roy were asked to join the investigation on Monday. A day earlier, police had arrested Umar Khalid, a former student leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for his alleged role in the violence. Khalid was arrested by the Special Cell after 11 hours of questioning. A communal clash took place in North East Delhi in February between opponents and supporters of the Citizenship Amendment Act, in which 53 people died.
