Ranchi : Lalu Prasad’s Diwali and Chhath will be spent in jail this time. He will now have to wait for November 27 for bail in the case of illegal withdrawal from the Dumka treasury of the fodder scam. During the hearing on the bail plea of Lalu Prasad in the Jharkhand High Court on Thursday, the CBI sought time from the court to file an answer.

The CBI was told that it would file an answer to Lalu Prasad’s claims. But it needs time for this. Accepting this request, the court of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh gave the CBI up to 24 numbers and set the hearing date on 27 November.

In the bail application, it has been said on behalf of Lalu Prasad that he has completed half the punishment in the illegal withdrawal case from Dumka treasury. In this case, he has also been in jail in Patna. He already spent 10 months in Patna jail. He has been in jail since 10 December 2017 in Ranchi. So far he has served more than 42 months. Convicted Lalu Prasad has so far been granted bail by the High Court in two cases of illegal extortion from the Chaibasa treasury and one case of illegal evacuation from the Deoghar treasury. Now bail is yet to be granted in Dumka case. If he gets bail in this case, he will be released from jail. Lalu Prasad is facing a total of five cases in Jharkhand, out of which he has been convicted in two cases of Chaibasa, one each in Deoghar and Dumka. At the same time, the trial of illegal withdrawal from Doranda treasury is going on in the lower court.

Jharkhand High Court angry over not giving report:
The Jharkhand High Court has expressed displeasure over not being given a report of the list of people who came to meet convicted Lalu Prasad during the last three months and for not following the jail manual. The court of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh asked the Inspector General of Prisons of the state and the Superintendent of Birsa Munda Central Jail to show cause why this information was not given even after the court order. On 27 November, the court directed both officials to respond to the show cause.

While hearing earlier, the court had sought RIMS’ medical report from Lalu Prasad. Also, the Inspector General of Prisons and Jail IG were asked to give a list of Lalu’s visitors. It was also asked to state whether the rules of the jail manual were being followed. Medical reports were made available by RIMS, but no information was provided by the jail IG.
