New Delhi : The Trump administration has proposed to abolish the computerized lottery system for granting ‘H-1B’ visas to foreign professionals working in the information technology sector and instead adopt a salary-based selection process.

A notification for the new system is being published in the Federal Register on Thursday. The Department of Home Security (DHS) said on Wednesday that stakeholders can respond on notification within 30 days.

The DHS stated that the abolition of the computerized lottery system would reduce the pressure on the allowances of American employees to come from low-paid ‘H-1B’ visa holders every year.

The ‘H-1B’ visa is a non-migrant visa that allows US companies to hire foreign employees skilled in technology.
