New York : Indian-American Bhavya Lal was appointed acting head of the US space agency by NASA on February 1. Bhavya Lal is a member of the review team on NASA’s change by the newly elected President of the United States, Joe Biden, and oversees the changes in the agency under the Biden administration.
The US space agency NASA said in a statement that Lal has vast experience in engineering and space technology. She is also an active member of the space technology and policy community.
Bhavya Lal holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in nuclear science. As well as she holds a Master of Science degree in Technology and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At the same time, she received her doctorate in public policy and public administration from George Washington University.
Prior to joining STPI, Lal served as president of C-STPS LLC, a science and technology policy research and consulting firm in Waltham, Massachusetts. Prior to this, she served as the director of the Center for Science and Technology Policy Studies at Abbott Associates Inc. in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Let me tell you at the same time that Bhavya is already connected to NASA through many programs. She has already been an external council member of the Technology, Innovation and Engineering Advisory Committee of NASA’s renowned Program Innovative Advanced Concepts Program and NASA Advisory Council.
Lal has also served on five National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) committees, the most recent of which is the one on Space Nuclear Propulsion Technologies, which will be released in 2021.
