New Delhi : Scientists have known for decades that individual shark species are declining, but a new study drawing on 57 global datasets underscores just how dramatically worldwide populations have collapsed in the past half century.

Due to increasing population and capitalism, the situation has not only worsened on the earth, but also shocking facts have emerged about the marine world. A recent research has revealed that shark fishes can end forever due to too much fishing in the sea. According to this research, 70 percent of shark fishes have died in the last 50 years.

Scientists found in a study that since 1970, the population of shark and ray fish has declined by 71 percent. According to this study, 24 out of 31 species of shark and ray fish have now come in the list of threatened species. In addition, the Oceanic Whitetip and the Great Hammerhead Shark are also in danger of extinction. The situation of shark fishes in the Indian Ocean has worsened since 1970 and 84.7 percent shark fish population has declined.

Scientists have known for many decades that shark species are significantly decreasing, but the last 50 years have been extremely frightening for shark fish globally. Scientists at Simon Fraser University in Canada and University of Exeter, UK, in their research found that the pressure on fishing has increased by 18 times since the year 1970, which has affected the ocean ecosystem and many organisms are largely extinct.

Scientists believe that quick steps need to be taken to save sharks and ray fishes. Dr. Richard Sherley, an expert on maritime affairs, said that if steps are not taken now, then the situation can be much more dangerous. Richard also said that in this case, there is a need to put pressure on the governments as well by the people. The same Marine biologist Stuart Sandin says in this case that whenever things are abnormal in the ocean environment, it is known to the shark first. Due to this feature, sharks also find their prey, but due to this, many times, sharks also fall prey to humans.

Talking about this matter, Duke University Ecologist Duke said that when you eliminate the top sea predators like sharks, the sea food cycle can be completely shaken and it can affect many things. Sharks are like sea lions or tigers and they help balance the entire ecosystem.
