The name of the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) has been announced. The post was vacant after the completion of two terms of Shashank Manohar from India. His term ended in July this year. Shashank was followed by Emraan Khwaja of Singapore as acting chairman. Barclay and Khwaja were the candidates in the race for the post of chairman.
According to the information, New Zealand Cricket chief Greg Barclay will be the new ICC chairman. Barclay has been the director of New Zealand cricket since 2012 and is a lawyer by profession. Earlier Greg Barclay was the representative of New Zealand Cricket on the ICC Board. Barclay will now resign from his post and take charge of the ICC.
Remember that the name of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly was also named for the post of ICC Chairman. Many former cricketers also expressed their support to Ganguly. However, the former Indian captain kept himself away from it.
After becoming ICC chairman, Greg Barclay said, “It is an honour to be elected as the chairman of the International Cricket Council.” I would like to thank my fellow ICC directors who supported me. ‘
I hope that together we can work for the betterment of the game and will come out of a pandemic like Corona and come to a stronger position.
